VLC plays everything and doesn't feel like a Mac app. QuickTime feels perfect and won't open your file. Infuse is beautiful and asks for a subscription. IINA is genuinely lovely and doesn't go where MacLC goes on HDR. MacLC is the intersection nobody had built.

What we didn't build
MacLC is built specifically for macOS and Apple Silicon. It is a dedicated media player, not a personal library organizer or streaming server front-end.
If you are running Windows or Linux, or if you need an all-platform library hub, you should use VLC. VideoLAN has spent two decades building the most reliable media engine in software history, and it remains the best choice for cross-platform playback.
